| The Office of Undergraduate Research at the University of Houston
is charged with the task of organizing, facilitating, and enhancing
opportunities for undergraduate research. Although housed
in The Honors College, the office serves undergraduates from all
colleges and disciplines. Current activities related to undergraduate
research include the Senior Honor Thesis program supervised through
The Honors College, the Provost's Undergraduate Research Scholarship (PURS) program,
the 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, and assistance in applying for nationally competitive scholarships. The University of Houston is a
premier public metropolitan research institution, with
the mission of providing a broad range of education programs while
engaging in a spectrum of research, scholarly, and artistic activities. Undergraduate
research is one activity that cuts across the traditional lines
of education and research and presents a significant opportunity
for development in shaping the future characteristics of urban
research institutions.
The University of Houston defines research as a diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover facts or principles, and increase the sum of knowledge, enhance design or enrich artistic ability.
